Enable citizens to better understand how/when to use the bin containers in order to decrease the trash being left on the streets.
Note that in order to come up with this idea I followed a specific process:
- Investigate: interviewed neighbors and street cleaning employees
- Created a full map of the different people involved/impacted
- Generated different possible solutions based on my research and feedback from neighbors
Wat is het plan? Increase the cleanness of the streets by improving the messaging on the containers so that citizens better understand how/when to dispose their trash and the impact of not doing it correctly.
Wat wilt u met uw plan bereiken?
- Avoid that citizens leave their bin bags next to the containers instead inside next to them (this happens even when the bin isn’t full)
- Enable citizens to better use the different types of bins
- Enable citizens to better understand when the bulky waste should be brought on the street so it isn’t disposed there for several days as it is then taking a lot of space on the street
- Avoid that children and animals (dogs, cats, birds) get injured or sick from touching or eating trash which wasn’t correctly put in the container
- Avoid to attract mouses and rats

Waarom moeten buurtbewoners op uw plan stemmen? Dirty streets impact people’s mood and has a snow ball effect from there on people’s mental health and behavior. Also when streets are continuously dirty people pay less and less attention to keeping them clean.
Improving the cleanness of the streets can have a have great positive impact on people’s mental health which has a great impact on pretty much everything else in their lives and the lives of people around them.
